Helena came along with her little friend True and they both stuck close for a long time. It turns out she is an expert on how to worm and give shots to other goats in addition to her skills in carpentry and barn construction. I much admire Helena's dam Calliope and hope for great things from Helena. Calliope recently won her MCH, was a Top Ten milker for 1-day tests in 2004, and qualified for her AR in 2007.
Helena has two beautiful sisters,one of whom, Atalanta, had already won her junior leg by the age of 3 months.
Helena had two boys this spring by Loki, and we will repeat that breeding and cross our fingers for a doe. Her udder came out very nicely, well attached, soft with nice milkable teats. She is a strong personality and smart so she got the idea of the milkstand pretty quickly, then spent some time deciding on whether she agreed with that idea or not. In the end we just compromised; I go quickly and she thinks philosophical thoughts. At least, I hope they are philosophical. Fortunately, just like our other Rio daughter,Zephyr, she is a breeze to milk. Helena freshened for the second time this spring with 3 girls, lots of color and spots.
